Run 4 Geelong goes virtual

23 Sep 2020

The Barwon Health Foundation’s Run 4 Geelong fundraising event will be hosted as a virtual event this year, with the community being asked to choose an area of Barwon Health that will receive 100% of their registration fee.

Now in its 12th year, the Barwon Health Foundation is appealing to the community to take part in this iconic local event in support of our local health service.

Executive Director of the Barwon Health Foundation Zoe Waters said there has never been a time where our health service has needed the support of the Geelong community more.

“The 2020 Run 4 Geelong event promises to be one to remember and provides an opportunity for our community to keep fit, healthy and don the much loved event shirts in a virtual display of gratitude for the health workers who are busy caring for us during this pandemic,” she said.

“Whether you like to walk, run or roll, are a serious runner, a power walker or are just looking for a great opportunity to exercise with your family, the virtual event will take place on Sunday 15 November, in your own local area.”

The community can register for the 10km run, 6km run or walk or the 1km kids dash and complete the event in a location across Victoria that appeals to you, in line with government guidelines around exercise.

“We are also excited to announce a new Run 4 Geelong category this year called ‘Set My Challenge’, where participants can set the number of kilometres they are going to walk, run or roll in the lead up to Run 4 Geelong on Sunday 15 November,” Zoe said.

One serious runner taking part in Run 4 Geelong’s Set My Challenge is Barwon Health Intensive Care Clinical Nurse Specialist, Kylie Lakey.

“My time caring for COVID patients in ICU has been both rewarding and challenging, but with great team work and emerging technologies we have been able to accomplish excellent and efficient patient care,” Kylie said.

“I encourage the entire community to join me and the team in ICU to get behind Run 4 Geelong, a race that will literally help save and improve local lives.”

“Keeping fit and healthy during this time is really important to me so I have challenged myself to run 10km on Sunday 15 November,” she said.

The Barwon Health Foundation in partnership with major sponsor Geelong Advertiser would like to thank event sponsors Wettenhalls, Hanlon Industries, Winslow Constructors, Villarosa Real Estate, RC Designer Gardens, APCO Foundation, Harcourts North Geelong, McColls Transport and Active Geelong for their support enabling 100% of registration fee to go to the cause.
