One Day to Make a Lasting Difference

By Zoe Waters, Executive Director, Barwon Health Foundation

By the time you read this, there will be less than 48 hours remaining in the financial year.

For many people across our region, it's a time to finalise plans, tick off last-minute tasks and reflect on the year that's been. It is also an opportunity to make a decision that will have an impact far beyond 30 June.

With just one day remaining before the end of the financial year, I invite our community to support the Barwon Women's and Children's Appeal and support healthcare for local women, children and families.

Since launching the private phase of the Appeal's Circle of Care in February, I have been continually inspired by the generosity of our region. More than 1,030 people have already joined this growing community of supporters, united by a shared belief that every woman, every child and every family deserves access to exceptional healthcare, close to home.

What I have learned through these conversations is that people give for deeply personal reasons.

They give because they remember the care a loved one received during a difficult time. They give because they are parents and grandparents thinking about the future. They give because they believe that local families should have access to the very best healthcare without needing to travel away from their support networks when they need care most.

The Barwon Women's and Children's Appeal will support the largest government health infrastructure project in Geelong's history. This week we will gather in a room of 1,000 people to officially launch the Appeal at the Barwon Health Foundation Gala Ball.

This Appeal is about the importance of outstanding healthcare.

Every one of us knows someone who will benefit from this project.

  • A daughter.
  • A son.
  • A grandchild.
  • A friend.
  • A neighbour.

Perhaps that is why the Appeal has resonated so strongly across our community. The impact is local and will be felt by the people we know and love for generations to come.

Tomorrow, the financial year ends. Tonight, there is still time to be part of the Barwon Women’s and Children’s Appeal.

A tax-deductible gift made before midnight on 30 June will help complement the existing Government investment in our community’s healthcare – supporting local women, children and families. Whether it is a modest contribution or a significant investment, every donation becomes part of a collective effort to support Barwon Health and build a health future for our region.

We often talk about leaving a legacy.

This is our chance to help support an impactful Appeal.
