A Son's Tribute to His Mother
For Michael Raymond, his mother Gwyneth was the greatest influence on his life.
Growing up on a large property in St Albans with his parents and two sisters, Michael's childhood was comfortable in many ways, but not without its challenges. Through it all, Gwyneth was his constant. She was a generous and compassionate woman, who instinctively put the needs of others before her own.
The values she lived every day left a lasting impression on Michael.
As he grew older, he developed a deep passion for supporting disadvantaged children and young people. He understood that many children face circumstances beyond their control and that, with the right opportunities and support, their lives could be transformed.
Michael quietly dedicated himself to helping others, volunteering as a Lifeline first responder and offering hope to people during some of their most difficult moments. True to his humble nature, he never sought recognition for his generosity.
Later in his life, Michael chose to create a charitable trust
in memory of his mother, ensuring her kindness and generosity would continue to make a difference for generations to come. Guided by Michael's vision, the Gwyneth Raymond Trust has supported numerous charitable initiatives across our region, always with a focus on improving the lives of children and young people experiencing disadvantage.
Most recently, the Trust made a generous $1 million gift to the Barwon Women's and Children's Appeal, helping to care for women, children and families across our region, for generations to come.
It is a gift that feels especially fitting.
Every day, children and families will walk through the doors of the future Gwyneth Raymond Child and Adolescent Clinics. Here, young people and their families will have access to exceptional care close to home.
Legacies are not measured by wealth or recognition - they are measured by the lives they continue to change. It is an honour for the Barwon Health Foundation to continue the legacy of both Gwyneth and Michael Raymond, forever.
