Father's Day campaign raises $35,000 for mens health

Thank you to the local community the Father’s Day Project, launched in August, has raised over $35,000 for vital men’s health services to support three major health issues facing local men: cancer, cardiovascular disease and mental health.

Each year, about 1300 men require treatment for mental illness at Barwon Health.

According to the Black Dog Institute, one in five Australians aged 16 to 85 will experience symptoms of mental illness each year. Alarmingly, 60% of these people won’t seek help.

Executive director of the Barwon Health Foundation Zoe Waters said the funds raise will have a big impact to men needing the lifesaving care and support of Barwon Health.

“The Father’s Day Project has raised awareness and funds for mental health initiatives at Barwon Health as well Barwon Health’s Andrew Love Cancer Centre and Cardiac Services,” Zoe said.

“Thank you to everyone who donated to this appeal to support the biggest causes or mortality and morbidity of men in our region.”
