Colleen Carroll

Colleen was a cherished and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She devoted her life to the growth and security of her family and she always protected the essence of that unity. The role of a mother can always be recognised as a figure of strength and stability and in Colleen’s case she took this role very seriously. The love she had for her husband Dennis and her children Mark, Joanne, Tricia, Andrew and Sean was shown daily with care and affection. 

The support the PAL at Home team at Barwon Health and the Oncology team at Epworth Geelong was exceptional in our time of need. The team was nothing but professional and sympathetic to Colleen and her family’s needs. 

We the family felt that the support the PAL at Homes team in Mum’s final weeks/days was life changing for us. We were given the opportunity to spend the final days with Mum in her home. She was with her family whom she cherished so much and for us to have the ability to give back to Mum after many years of devoted attention to our needs, was so comforting for us all. 

With the looming uncertainty of Covid-19 and the new ‘Covid normal’ the PAL at home program is an essential health service that makes the end of life process so much easier for the patient and their families. Without this program we are certain that Mum’s battle would have been much shorter and she would have suffered so much more if she wasn’t at home, as would the family. We are incredibly grateful for the extra time and memories we were able to share with our precious mother in the final chapter of her life. It would be great to see every family in need offered this opportunity. It will certainly help us move through the grieving process with a bit more comfort knowing we could support Mum and be by her side at every moment throughout her battle.

We cannot thank the PAL at Home team enough for their amazing support in such a difficult time. They are all Angels on earth and should be supported in their pursuits.
