As Christmas approaches, the local community are being asked to purchase a Barwon Health Foundation Candle for a Cause to honour our health care heroes.
This year the new release of two limited edition candles will support staff wellbeing and children’s health at Barwon Health.
Each candle will feature the exclusive artwork of a local prominent artists who have all donated their artwork in support of the campaign.
The artists include Rowena Martinich and Clare Westwood.
As the artist on the ‘Thank you’ candle, for Rowena didn’t hesitate in joining the collaboration,
"2020 really has been a year about finding a way to give what you can. This year, so many of us have faced immense challenges, and as an artist if I can help in sharing my artwork for this cause, there is no question that I would do that. COVID-19 has really taught me to find a place within the small unit of my family and relish in what we have, in the present. As an artist I can help make the world a little lighter. For that reason I have chosen this piece ‘An interior sparkle’ for Candles for a Cause."
The idea of the thank you candle is that purchasers are not only saying thank you to our health care heroes but can also give the gift as a thank you to someone special in their life, a loved one, carer or teacher.
For local artist Clare Westwood the collaboration was also a personal one. Far from strangers to the medical world, Clare was thrilled and honoured to be a part of the Candles for a Cause.
With what seemed like endless trips into Emergency whilst their daughter was on dialysis, Clare hopes her contribution can assist in raising much needed funds to children’s health, who have helped their family countless times over the years.
