46 years of fundraising and supporting local cancer patients and families
About Cancer After Care Group
The initiative of one woman, prompted by the need for support from others who had experienced surgery or other treatment for Cancer, was the catalyst for the formation of the group. The group soon began providing transport for patients attending Melbourne for treatment and a meeting place where cancer sufferers and their families could share their experiences and support one another.
Cancer After Care Group Geelong was formed in 1978, as a support group for those affected by cancer, growing from an initial 24 members to over 400 throughout the years.
These members raised awareness of cancer in our community, highlighting the need to improve and make treatment facilities available to patients in Geelong, so the lobbying began.
The Cancer After Care Group Geelong now operate as a sub-fund under the support of the Barwon Health Foundation and continue to meet and fundraise.
In recent years they have provided amazing support for vital equipment for the Andrew Love Cancer centre and cancer services, are a 10 year ongoing sponsor for Catwalk for Cancer, and have made commitments to wellbeing projects such as the Palliative Care garden at the McKellar centre.
If you can, please donate to their extraordinary cause. You may even consider a bequest in your will to ensure both your legacy and that of the Cancer After Care Group continues forever.
