August is Legacy Month, a time to celebrate life, pay tribute to our amazing healthcare heroes, reflect on our own lives, consider our legacy, and hear from some extraordinary minds.

In support of Legacy month, several prominent Geelong law firms have offered their services FREE for anyone who wants their will written or altered and wish to include a gift for the Barwon Health Foundation.

For more information in total confidence and with no obligation or to receive a Bequests information pack, please call Francis Trainor – Philanthropy and Bequests Manager on 4215 8919 or email ftrainor@barwonhealth.org.au

CONSIDERING YOUR LEGACY

“To leave the world a bit better ….. to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived – that is to have succeeded”

With the current COVID-19 pandemic, such thoughts and discussions are high on many people's minds.

As the community is directed by government and health services to practice social distancing, follow hand hygiene recommendations, getting tested and generally staying safe, we all have to learn and adapt to a "new normal" as we discover new ways to work, new ways to keep in social contact and new ways to cope.

For many the changes have been drastic and life-changing and our hearts go out to all of those who suffered any negative impact. Certainly we encourage anyone in these circumstances to seek out help.

It is also a time where many have reflected on their legacy - and that of loved ones.

We have seen an increase of "In Memoriam" gifts - honouring the life of a loved one - several of whom passed away sometime ago. We have also seen an increase in donations to our "Lasting Legacy" fund investing in, and growing, Barwon Health's services for future generations, and reserving a leaf on our "Lasting Legacy" tree.

Many others have been prompted to reflect on their lives and either create their first will or update their existing will to suit current circumstances.

In considering a will, it is always important, where necessary, to consider gifts to family. Many also look to support their local community through causes close to their hearts.

We'd also be delighted to discuss how, you In Memoriam gift, Lasting Legacy or Bequest may have a lasting impact for our health service.
